Lancaster's White Cross has been named Spring Pub of the Year by the local branch of The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). The popular canal-side inn was singled out for its wide range of good quality beers and the innovative approach of the management.
Accepting the certificate, bar manager Tom Wilkinson said he was “very proud indeed.” The award was an acknowledgement of the pub's policy of promoting good quality cask beers, “particularly our support for local and regional breweries.” And he added, “It's also a testament to our hard-working staff and loyal customers.”
CAMRA Chairman Cliff Laine emphasised the care and attention that Tom Wilkinson and landlord Tim Tomlinson devoted to deciding which real ales to order. “The results of that effort can be seen here,” he said, indicating the array of beers on offer. “This is a thoroughly deserved award.”
The White Cross currently has 12 real ales on hand pump, more than any other pub in the area.
