Farm Yard Ales is a brewery that just got going this summer in the wilds between Cockerham and Pilling. Four of the committee visited on 7 September. the ale went down very nicely. The brewery is in a large steel shed on a farm. There is a bar on a mezzanine floor from which the brewing vessels are in full view. One-man operation (Steven Holmes) so far but intends to hire an assistant soon. Ales have been in several pubs, mostly between Garstang and Lancaster but as far as Bolton. No regular outlet. The beers on draught were: Hay Bob, 3.8%; Pale Piglet, 4.0%; Ewe Zealand 5%. In bottle Half Cut 4.8%, pastueurised. All more or less pale ales, all enjoyable. Plans for a lager and a red ale. Beer was also available in cans which will probably be the preferred packaging. Brewery impressively high-tech. Bar open Fri 5-11; Sat, Sun 12-11
