Only a small party for our train trip to Wigan, but a very enjoyable day, with some great beer in some great pubs, with very friendly locals. Starting and finishing in the Wigan Central, runner-up in the National pub of the year, and owned by the Prospect Brewery (we later met the head brewer, who would have given us a brewery tour if we had called earlier). Then we walked up Wallgate and visited the Raven. Next came the Tap’n’Barrel, a micro and tap for the Maitland Brewery, with Alex very knowledgeable about beer. Next came the Anvil, Doc’Symposium, another micro, the Moon under Water (Wetherspoons) and the Berkeley. Thanks to local CAMRA secretary Philip Healey for some helpful information.
