Five members, and later joined by St.Helens Branch pub officer Ian Hamilton, who was a great help guiding the party around town. We had a very enjoyable day in St.Helens, a very hot day with plenty of walking. We went by train, changing at Wigan. Starting at the Sefton, moving on to the Turk's Head, then next door at the Cowley Arms, walking down to the Talbot Alehouse, the Newsroom didn't open until 3pm, so we walked on the Cricketers Arms, the national pub of the year, where some of the party watched the first half of England's World Cup win over Sweden, the second half was spent at the Phoenix Arms, extra time wasn't needed, so we passed the two Wetherspoons, and passing Church Square, where a music and food fair was taking place, which included a stall for the Connoisseur Brewery, but we continued to the brewery, hidden away and only open on the first Saturday of the month. Then back by train, changing at Wigan.
