Five members caught the train to Preston, changing for the X2 bus to Southport and Birkdale. The first pub visited was the Barrel House, a micro, where we met Phil Morris, the Southport Branch pub officer, who did an excellent job, guiding the party around Southport. We caught the bus back to Bootle Room, another micro on Lord Street, moved almost next door to the Peaky Blinders, then the Guest House, a more traditional pub on Union Street, and then a walk to the ’promenade’ and the Lakeside Inn, which claims to be the smallest pub in Britain. We finished at the Tap & Bottles, another micro, in the pedestrian Cambridge Walk. Back by bus and train to Lancaster.
