A country local with a great atmosphere and excellent beer has been selected by real ale enthusiasts as their winter pub 2009. Lunesdale Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has presented The George & Dragon at Wray with their Pub of The Season award at a special event attended by pub regulars and campaign members.
CAMRA noted the pub’s “cosy, warm ambience, real fire and oak beams,” making it “the ideal place to enjoy a tasty pint.”
Licencees Neil and Susan Taplin spoke of their delight at receiving the accolade. Said Neil, “It’s good to have the vital role of the village pub in the community recognised at a time when many are predicting its demise.”
Presenting the award, CAMRA vice chair Jenny Greenhalgh commented: “I’ve known this pub for 30 years, and the only way it has survived is on the efforts of the licencees and the recognition from Mitchell’s that such pubs do have a viable future.&rdquo
