This was my first visit to the Bentham Beer & Music Festival, I believe it’s the third one {more like the fourth -webmaster], all very local and not well advertised, all the pubs (except the Punch Bowl in Low Bentham) with the two clubs plus two new licensed ‘Cafes’ taking Part. Two ‘Bentham Buses’, really taxis ferrying drinkers around all day for £1. All very enjoyable. Three members caught the train from Lancaster, picking up Tom in the Black Bull, our starting point, then along to the Hoggs’n’Heifers, ’bus’ down to the Sun Dial, and I completed my task of visiting all 150 pubs in Lunesdale, the Sun Dial has always been closed on previous visits, nice pub, do visit the new beer garden, a mountain climb up the steps. A walk to the Punch Bowl and back to the Sun Dial and the ‘bus’ to Bentham Golf Club, ‘A Diamond in the Dales to be Discovered by You’ (Golf Club publicity). ‘Bus’ down to the Horse & Farrier, then a look in the two new bars, both had no real ale, only bottles, The Angus Depot was having a Beach Party BBQ, sand on the floor, with plastic palm trees, etc with the barman in a grass shirt, all very colourful. The Black Pig had less colour, but nice seating outside, it was a warm sunny day. We bypassed the Bentham Club, no real ale, had a half in the Coach House and a final drink in the Hogs’n’Heifers waiting for the train.
