On Thursday 16 November, the Lunesdale Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA ) presented Rory Walker of Borough Brewery with a special award for “Outstanding Services to Real Ale” .
Presenting the certificate, branch chairman Barry Young recalled the history of the brewery, founded in 2013. He remembered sitting in the Borough pub at 4pm and watching Rory coming up out of the cellar in his white wellies carrying buckets of spent grain. This year, brewing was moved to new premises. In his (Barry’s) opinion, the beers have got better.
The ceremony was watched by an audience of local CAMRA members and Rory's family. Rory said his love of beer was instilled by his father, who in turn was tutored by his elder brother John.
The “Outstanding Services” award was instituted by the branch in 2009 and has previously been given to just three people.
