The Lunesdale Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is pleased to announce that its Club of the Year for 2018 is the Commodore Club in Morecambe. The certificate was presented at the club by the branch chairman, Barry Young, to the club steward Sonja Swift. Mr Young in a brief speech emphasised the part the latter has played in improving the club. “We used to come here with my quiz team,” he said, “and when the game was finished we went home. But lately we’ve all wanted to stay on drinking their beer.” The Commodore Club is the base for the Morecambe Royal Naval Association and there are naval insignia and photographs on the walls. But in practice landlubbers and civilians are made perfectly welcome and it serves as a local watering-hole for that indefinite borderland between Morecambe and Heysham.
