LUNESDALE CAMRA BRANCH trip to ULVERSTON

Devonshire Arms

Saturday 29th June by Lawrence Bland On a hot sunny day, a small party caught the 1103 train from Lancaster to Ulverston. We visited all the GBG pubs, starting at the Devonshire Arms, I started with a Abbeydale Moonshine. Next stop was the Stan Laurel, naturally with lots of photos of Laurel & Hardy, one Ulverston Brewery beer was available, the Lonesome Pine. On to the Swan, a Elland Idaho7, continuing to a busy Market Street, In the Sun, we tried a Stringers Strawberry Beer, better that it sounds! Opposite was the new micro, the Beer Wolf, a Hawkshead seasonal special was sampled. A short walk led to the Mill, owned by the Lancaster Brewery, although we tried a Fell Ghyll. Up Southergate and we came to the Old Friends, now a brewpub, we sampled their New Acquaintances and Best Friends, and two beers from the nearby Healey brewpub beers were available, we tried the Blond. We walked back to the station with another visit to the Swan and a final Fell Tinderbox IPA. We had planned to Catch the 1608 train, put that was cancelled, along with the next two trains, we finally caught a bus to Grange, where we boarded a full two coach train to Lancaster.
